We’re celebrating our 20th exhibition and 2nd anniversary with a special show on the 7th August 7-10pm, called “Spin On This”. We’ve asked some of our favourite artists who share our love of bikes to make artwork inspired by bikes, cycling and the Scottish biking tradition.
Participants:
Will Barras
ilovedust
SUMS
DERM
WASTE
Blackcloud
Jam Factory
REKOR
SYRKUS
Pone
Thomas Deeprose
Russell Dempster
Since cotton is the 2nd anniversary gift, we're giving away limited edition cotton party bags to the first 20 guests to the opening, full of treats from us, our sponsors and the artists. We're also building a one of a kind fixed gear bike with Gear that will be raffled off on the opening night too.

SJS CYCLES & LFGSS
If you haven't heard the good news, LFGSS has been sponsored by SJS Cycles:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread25621.html
We're in the very early stages of this but I'm really glad that we're working with SJS. I've shopped from them in the past (building a Thorn Audax bike) and loved their service and range of components. I was always going to be biased towards selecting a sponsor that I believed could do LFGSS justice and I think you'll agree that I've done just that.
Initially what this means for LFGSS is that in return for banner space, and their logo in the header and stuff, I get to not have to run around frantically trying to figure out how to make the forum financially viable. That's a short view on it though, the real deal is what happens long term and what the community and SJS can do together.
SJS are currently looking for feedback from the community for ideas on products we'd like to see them stock, if you have any views then feel free to contact dawesie (Nick at SJS) who introduced himself here: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread25490.html

T-SHIRTS
I've been promising these since who knows when (2 months ago), but finally the T-shirts are in production and will be ready hopefully by the end of next week.
There are 16 designs being produced, all in limited runs, and the shirts that have gone into production can be seen here:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread19661-26.html#post730365
Some of the designs are limited to 50 pieces, some to just over 100 pieces. None of these designs will be produced more than once, so this is your notice that if you want one you need to put your pennies aside and be ready to order next weekend.
SJS Cycles are helping with the logistics and the shirts will be exclusively available from their online shop:
http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/?src=lfgss
We'll delay the news email next week to coincide with the shirts becoming available to order so that you all get the chance to purchase them first.

EUROPEAN HARDCOURT BIKE POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS
This message from the tournament HQ:
On August 1st and 2nd 2009, London will host the first ever European Hardcourt Bike Polo Championships with forty teams, including 16 teams from the UK, competing to be crowned champions.
Besides a full 24 hours of polo in two days there are also parties the 31st, 1st and 2nd to which all of LFGSS is most thoroughly welcome. Come down and watch the polo during the day and then party with the teams into the night.
Teams from France, Germany, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Spain, and Switzerland, and from across the UK, including 5 from London, will be contesting the title with more than 140 games over two days at Union Street, Southwark, SE1.
The EHBPC 2009 is the third major tournament organised in London in as many years and is supported by the London Hardcourt Bike Polo Association (LHBPA). London also organised Europe's first Hardcourt Bike Polo League in Winter 2008/9, which was contested by 14 teams. The Winter of 2009/10 will see a continuation of the league and newcomers to the sport are welcome to join.
With support from Play Sport London, in the weeks before and after the Championships, the LHBPA are running introductory sessions to hardcourt bike polo. There are details on the ehbpc.org website about how to get involved.
EHBPC’s Sponsors include Brooks Saddles, Chunk Clothing, FixieInc., Play Sport London, Brick Lane Bikes, Knog, Shop 14, Tour De Ville, Velocity, Bern Helmets, Southwark Cyclists, Bicycle Images, Max Knight, Archies Gro Bags, and Continental Tires.
We wouldn’t be at this point without the help, support and services of FGSS and the legendary Velocio. If you would like to volunteer to help with the Euro’s please see our volunteer thread. We need help in the lead up to the event with giving out fliers as well as during the tourney itself.
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread24555.html
If you can’t give the hours but you still would like to support your fellow forumengers in creating the EHBPC, consider buying a polo shirt or hoodie from their site. 100% of the profits goes to funding the Euros and you will make a big impact on the success of the event.

Stadium ride
This Sunday sees the first Stadium ride taking place:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread23367.html
The starting point is Loftus Rd - home of QPR for 10am, and then the ride will take in the stadiums of these London clubs: QPR, Chelsea, Fulham, Millwall, Charlton, West Ham, Spurs & Arsenal.
A ride for the diary is the seventh Bridges ride:
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread24150.html
This takes place month from now, Saturday 22nd August.
This is an East to West ride starting at Tower Bridge around 10pm at night and crossing every bridge westwards until you reach Kew Bridge.
If you haven't yet done a bridges ride you should. They are easy rides in terms of distance and lack of hills, can roll quite fast occasionally, and still no-one is left behind.
